Hull Surface Treatment
This video demonstrates a new and environmentally safe technique being used by Navy to lessen hull fouling and reduce fuel consumption. DSTO testing has confirmed that the regular application of this treatment to the hulls of Navy ships will result in a 2-5% saving in fuel consumption.
Navy's fleet consumes around $180m of fuel every year. With rising fuel costs placing increasing pressure on our bottom line, making economical use of fuel is a major component of the Navy SRP strategy. Even a small percentage saving on the volume of fuel that Navy uses can translate into millions of dollars each year which can be channelled back into new ships and capability.
We encourage you to view the video above and visit the SRP toolbox to view details of some of the proposed reforms. This will also be a subject covered in an upcoming Divisional presentation.
